The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a 156-year-old tropical garden located in central Singapore. Spread over 74 hectares, the Botanic Gardens features more than 10,000 species of plants and pioneered the study of orchids, and more specifically, the development of hybrids. Make sure you head over to the National Orchid Garden where you’ll encounter more than 450 species of orchids, many of which are on the verge of extinction in their natural habitats.
Insider Tip: “Orchid diplomacy” is a Singaporean tradition where hybrids are named after heads of state as a gesture of friendship to promote goodwill between Singapore and other countries.
